I don't actually have one yet, but this line of computers looks worth checking out:

http://frame.work

Long story short, this line is very upgradable, customizable, and user-repairable. The line, including laptops, feature 6 easily-swappable "expansion cards" that add USB, DisplayPort, HDMI, 1/8" Audio Jack, Ethernet, and even up to 1 terabyte extra storage.

They are committed to keeping their laptop case design consistent, so that when you want to upgrade your CPU, you can keep your case and monitor. Simply swap out the motherboard (Laptops do not have socketed CPU). An inexpensive case is available to make a mini-PC out of your old motherboard (13" lie only).

The 16" line features upgradeable video cards for gamers and other users where the on-board video is not sufficient.

The downside is that touch-screen is only available on the 12" line. Also, shipments for the latest AI-
7 and AI 9 processors is delayed.

I am looking at the 16" line. Hopefully, my current machine will last another 6 months or a year. By then, supply issues will be resolved. There are indicators that there are plans to add touch-screen to their 16" line (connectors on the motherboard.) No touchscreen would not be a deal-breaker for me, but it is a feature I use ocasionally.

What do y'all think?

Very cool !

I never used a laptop for my personal PC as I could never add or upgrade anything, always was like a "snapshot in time" and then your historically stuck until you buy another new one. This could convert me, although it would be a slam dunk if anyone on their development team was a ham, imagine modules suited for Amateur Radio !!

I like the concept, and nobody else does that so kudos to them for thinking outside the box. I just bought my desktop so it would be awhile before I needed something.

For desktops I highly recommend PowerSpec, Microcenters brand. I cant say enough about them, no bloat and great service and support, they actually answer the phone and everybody speaks understandable english....hi hi !!

I signed up for the frame.work newsletter just to keep up. I see they also sell desktops.

Thanks for sharing this !!

The link is correct. I click on the link in my post, and it goes there. Perhaps the site was temporarily down.

Try typing in the address in your browser. frame.work

Note that the URL is frame.work. Not framework.com or frame.work.com. The top-level domain is .work! Not sure what technology is required on the client-side to handle these screwy new top-level domains. Try your smart phone or a newer computer.
