Radio Interface Selection Guide

Interface your rig's VFO to your computer for remote control and automatic logging of frequency, band, and mode. This chart will help you determine what to order.

ICOM AND TEN TEC KENWOOD YAESU

DON'T FORGET!
IC-271A/H*, IC-471, IC-706, IC-725, IC-726, IC-728, IC-735, IC-471*, IC-751A*, IC-746, IC-756, IC-761, IC-765, IC-775, IC-781, IC-970, IC-7000, IC-R10, IC-R71, IC-R72, IC-R700, IC-R7000, IC-R7100, IC-R9000, IC-1271A* and other rigs that list an Icom CT-17 as an option. Also TenTec Argonaut II, Delta II.

Buy the W1GEE LCU-3I Cable terminated with a 1/8” phone plug on one end and a 9-pin female DB9 serial connector on the other. These interfaces replace Icom’s CT-17.

Require a UX-14 interface.  Look for a 1/8" phone jack labeled REMOTE or something like that on the back of your rig.   If you have one, all you need is the LCU-3. 

If your rig does not have the UX-14 installed, please order our UX-14 plug-compatible replacement. This unit has a built-in level converter, so no LUC-3 is needed.
The IC-7800 has a built-in interface and needs only an inexpensive straight-thru cable with a female connector at one end, and a male at the other,  available from us.

You may use our LCU-3 interface if you wish to take advantage of the CI-V technology which allows you to run several rigs on the same serial port.


 The Ten-Tec Orion & Orion 2 need a straight-thru RS-232 extension cable, male on one end, female on the other, available from us.

TS-50 TS-140+, TS-440*, TS-450, TS-680+, TS-690, TS-711+, TS-790, TS-811+, TS-850, TS-940+, TS-950, R-5000*, and other rigs that list a Kenwood IF-232C as an option.br>
Buy the W1GEE LCU-3K (25 pin, includes 9-pin adapter)

Cable terminated with a male 6-din plug. These interfaces replace Kenwood’s IF-232C.

*TS-440 & R-5000 need  the CHSET-1 Chipset installed in the radio. Equivalent to IC-10.

TS-140, TS-680 need an interface board installed inside the radio.  Order the LCU-3 if your rig already has this board.  If it does not, order our replacement interface board below.

Buy the W1GEE LCU-3K (25 pin) cable terminated with a male 6-din plug if the radio already has a Kenwood IF-10A/B/C interface board. Comes with a 9-25 pin adapter.

Interface Boards
These boards are a plug-and-play replacement for the Kenwood units. Additionally, they include a TTL-RS-232 level converter. You do not need  our LCU-3K or Kenwood's IF232C.

The RS-232 connector is a 9-pin female DB-9.

The TS-50 requires an IF-10D interface, which we do not have, and for which we cannot find a source. Kenwood apparently no longer makes them.
FT-736, FT-747, FT-767, FT-990, FT-1000/1000D, Heathkit SB-1400 and others with DIN-6 CAT port.

Buy the W1GEE LCU-3Y1 for Yaesu big DIN radios.   Cable terminated with a Male 6-pin DIN plug. The RS-232 connector is a 9-pin female DB-9. These interfaces are equivalent to Yaesu’s FIF-232.

FT-757GXII (not FT-757GX), FT-840, FT-890, FT-900, and others with miniDIN-6 CAT port.

Buy the W1GEE LCU-3Y2 for most Yaesu mini din radios.   Cable terminated with a Male 6-pin mini-DIN plug. The RS-232 connector is a 9-pin female DB-9.
FT-100, FT-817, FT-857, FT-897, and others with a miniDIN-8 CAT port.

Buy the W1GEE LCU-3Y3 for Yaesu miniDIN-8 radios. Cable terminated with a Male 8-pin miniDIN plug. Equivalent to Yaesu’s CT-62. The RS-232 connector is a 9-pin female DB-9.

Has a built-in interface. Buy the  serial extension cable (Straight thru, 9-pin male one end, 9-pin female on the other).
