Multiple Serial Ports

LOGic 5 can use up to 9 serial ports, so we are frequently asked how to hook more than two serial ports up to a computer.  If you have a fairly new motherboard, it will have Universal Serial Bus. Get an RS-232 port that plugs into USB, and IRQs are not an issue.

Economical USB to Serial adapters are available from PDA.  Call for details.

For older motherboards, you can use any of the add-on cards that support changing IRQs. MEI Micro has an I/O professional card with two serial ports and 1 parallel port for $34.95, part#933564. Phone 800-634-3478. I don't remember which IRQs it supports, but it allows 4 selections besides 3 and 4 (which are used by COM 1 and 2) as I remember.

We do not endorse these vendors.  However, we are not aware of any unresolved problems anyone has had in dealing with them.
