LOGic now supports interface to the Kachina control program. This permits simultaneous use of LOGic and the Kachina control program. LOGic can read and control the Kachina.

This interface uses an intermediate disk file to pass information between the two programs. This file is buffered, so there is no actual wear and tear on your disk drive as you use the program.
Download the latest Kachina software from the Kachina web site. Install the software and run it. Insure that the software is communicating with the rig.
After the Kachina software is installed and running, select Station Settings from the Special menu, then select Interface To Other Logbooks, then select On. A file named "kc505_nn.dat" will be created, where "nn" is the "com" port number. This file holds frequency and mode data as discussed below. The user may turn this function off when not using the interface. However, leaving it on hurts nothing.
Run LOGic. Go to tools/setup/misc ham setup. Select Radio Ifc. Select the "Kachina 505 with disk file interface" driver. If this driver is not listed, install the latest LOGic 5.2 update. LOGic 5.2 customers may download this at no cost. Leave the Port selection blank, and baud rate 0. This interface does not use a serial port. Click OK.
You will be prompted for the inteface disk file name. Select the appropriate file (KC505_01.DAT for example). It will be located in the same folder as the Kachina software.
LOGic will remember the file location and will not ask for it again. The file name is stored in KACHINA.INI, which is located in the LOGIC5 folder. If you change COM ports on the Kachina, LOGic will have to be told where the new file is. To make LOGic prompt for the file name again, exit LOGc, and delete the old KC505_nn.DAT file. You may also manually edit the KACHINA.INI file.
Note that the Kachina program does not permit setting or reading of split status. LOGic merely assumes that split mode is on if the TX and RX frequencies are different.
