We are happy to announce the first major update to LOGic 7. There
are several new features--undoubtedly something that you can use! And
best of all, it is free to LOGic 7 customers.
As always, we appreciate everyone's support of LOGic and for your
suggestions. Keep them coming! And we especially appreciate your recommending
LOGic to others. This is what makes it all possible.
Thanks & 73,
Dennis WN4AZY

Free QSL route database
Click Tools/Internet in LOGic to download a 60,000+ record QSL manager database into
LOGic's QSL Route facility. You may select the full list, or just the
updates. Download the full list the first time or if you have not
downloaded in 45 days. Otherwise, select Updates. An updated QSL list
will be posted to our web site approximately monthly. Watch
http://hosenose.com/radio for notices.
The new data is appended to or your existing data, but if you entered your
own QSL data and want to make absolutely sure it is not affected, keep a copy
of DATA\QSLMAN.DBF and DATA\QSLMAN.FPT.
IOTA list now available as a free download
LOGic has always been able to track popular Islands of the Air award.
However, unlike other awards, the IOTA list has never been made freely
available by the sponsor (Radio Society of Great Britain). So to get the nice
IOTA dropdown list which showed the description of the island groups, and to
get lists or unworked islands, it was necessary to purchase an optional
add-on list. While inexpensive, keeping this purchased list up-to-date
was an inconvenience.
We are happy to report that RSGB has authorized us to distribute the list at
no charge to you. Simply install the .100 release of LOGic, then go to
Tools/Internet and click Update IOTA. When new islands are
added, it may take a week or so for the list on our server to get updated.
If a new island has been added, don't hesitate to drop us an email asking us
to update our list.
PDA and RSGB want to thank the LOGic customers who have supported the IOTA
program and LOGic over the past years by purchasing the IOTA list.
Please continue to support the IOTA program by purchasing the IOTA directory. See the
IOTA web site at http://rsgbiota.org.

Spot Log
The spot log has several new features. Most notable is the Prefilter
feature. This is used in addition to band segment filtering to ignore spots
that you do not wish to see. You may specify any criteria, using a
powerful filtering facility similar to what the log form and report writer
uses, which LOGic users have become reliant on. For instance, you may
choose to see only spots posted by stations within 1000 miles of your QTH,
only spots posted by stations in your country or continent, etc.
Just click the Filter button next to the Prefilter field. Fill out
the filter form just as you do when searching for log data or running a
report.
Note that more fields have been added to the spot file: Continent of
spotting station, DXCC of spotting station, distance of spotting station in Mi
and Km, and number of Days Ago that the station was worked on this band and
mode. (This new Days Ago field will be discussed in depth later).
To ignore spots from certain bands or modes, continue to use the spot
filtering feature of the Band Table as described in LOGic's help. A button has
been added to the spot log form for quick access to the Band Table form.
The option to process only spots from your continent has been removed from
DX Summit and DXScape diownload forms, as they are no longer needed.
Spots that are blocked by the Prefilter are still plotted in LOGic's map
(provided spot plotting is enabled). This is so that you may, for
example, only see spots posted by stations within your country, but still see
an overview of worldwide propagation in LOGic's map.
The Prefilter feature frees up the filter feature of the spot log for
quickly searching for spots of interest, just as you use the filter feature of
the log form to find particular QSOs. You no longer need to leave a
filter in effect to hide spots that are categorically of no interest to you.
Of course you may filter using the new spot log fields mentioned previously.

Days Ago
LOGic logs the number of days ago that the station being spotted was worked
on the same band and mode. It is interesting to browse this column and see
who you have worked before, and how long ago. You may set the Days Ago
option to prevent reworking the same station on the same band and
mode. In the example pictured here, if the same station has been worked
within the past 90 days on the same band and mode, it will not be shown as
needed. If Show All is checkmarked, the spot will show in the
spot log just like a spot that is not needed for anything, except that the
callsign will be highlighted in blue.
This makes it easy to see that the station has already been worked
recently on this band and mode.
The Days Ago column of the spot log shows how many days ago the station was
worked. Today counts as 1 day, so if you work someone, and another spot
for the same station on the same band/mode is posted by someone else a few
minutes later, 1 will appear in the Days Ago column.
You may of course see all QSOs with any station in the spot log in the
Previous QSOs form.
Other new Spot Log features
You may select CW Narrow for setting the rig to CW spots, provided your rig
supports this.
The Progress 1 and Progress 2 form is now coordinated with the spot log to
show progress for DXCC, CQ Zone, ITU Zone, Continent, IOTA, or PFX (WPX
prefix). Since the spot log
itself shows awards status for every needed
entity, this feature is used primarily for checking progress on different
bands and modes.
The wording of the Spot Level feature has been clarified.
County Hunters
County hunters may now download over twenty membership lists into LOGic's
memberships table from the
http://countyhunter.com site. Click on Tools/Internet or
Tools/Setup/Memberships.
County hunters working mobile stations may turn off auto logging of QTH and
County from the callbook. Click Log (the menu along the top of the log
data form), then Setup, then Callbook to access these options.
Callbook
Web lookups by the log form are now done in the background. After
adding a new record and entring the call, you may continue to use LOGic to log
or do whatever. When the callbook web lookup completes, the name, QTH,
and address info will pop into the log (of course for this to happen, you must
have auto logging turned on as as always).
If you manually log name or QTH, it will not be overwritten when the web
lookup completes.
Some web sites force the display of the browser window to the top. If
the call is found on one of these sites, and the site is not a commercial site
where we must display the ad, the log form will be automatically brought to
the top again after the download completes. As usual, if the site has
advertisements, read the ad, then click on return from ad, or manually
select the log form.
Ireland and Norway have been added to LOGic's internal callbook. Romania
has been added to Web Callbook Loookup.
You may now turn off auto logging of QTH and County. See
County Hunters above.
QRZ Subscription is now supported by the web callbook interface.
Thankfully, the free QRZ site is also available.
