IE appears to be the default browser when I am trying to upload my QSO to LOTW. It logs in ok, but then I get a new tab page with the words in URL box "about.blank" in browser and it just sits there, nothing happens again. When I exit the browser I get this message:
OLE error code 0x800706ba: RPC server is unavailable. In Logic 8

OLE error code ox80010108: The object invoked has disconnected from its clients. In Logic 9

I have tried and gotten the problem with Logic 8 and Logic 9. All are current in updates. When I cancel Logic bombs out and closes. I have to clean up indexes to run Logic again. How can I fix this or use Safari or Chrome as my default browser?

Hi Roland:

Unfortunately Chrome or Firefox do not have the programmatic control interface needed by LOGic.

When did this start happening? Did it work previously? Have there been any Internet Explorer upgrades or changes in virus checkers or internet protection software?

Here is some LoTW troubleshooting info:

http://hosenose.com/Foru...ing-LoTW-and-LOGic.aspx

Try temporarily disabling any virus checkers or internet protection software.

Look first under the "Troubleshooting LOGic" section. Click the OPEN LOTW SITE IN BROWSER button. See if more than one window (or tab) opens. We used to run into this occasionally (more than one window opening), but not recently until now.

Since the problem seems to be with Internet Explorer, try reinstalling it or updating it.

Let me know.

Tnx & 73,

Thanks for the assistance Dennis. This is how I resolved the problem. I disabled virus protection to no avail. I started disabling addons in Manage Add ons in Tools to no avail. So I enabled everything again. Confused

Then I disabled "DefaultTab Browser Helper and viola the upload worked. BigGrin I unistalled this program in Control Panel. This is a add on that comes with some unidentified program. Company that provides this useless program is Search Results LLC.

So you may want to document this solution.

G'Day Roland,

Unfortunately this is a common problem. And often, LOGic wares the blame from something completely beyond its control.

I have lost count of the number of "browsers" I have fixed for my friends. They do not realise what will happen, and have no foundation for understanding, what to "not tick", as they install software they really do want to install. It is usually days later that they see something in IE that has appeared from nowhere.

For example, if you have installed Java - try to avoid it - during the installation there is a dialogue that includes the ASK Search Toolbar for IE - it will be installed by default, unless you clear the selection during the Java installation. One has to wonder why Oracle has made an agreement with ASK to do that.

I increasingly see the practice in Open Source tools. Google Chrome is often added to the install, and unless the "tick" is removed, will be installed.

In 2014, just clicking quickly through installation dialogues, without paying attention, is no longer a good idea.
