Problems on new computer

After re-installing version 8.0.104.0 on my laptop I am getting an error from Windows XP stating that LOGic has encountered an error and must shut down. LOGic seems to run fine up until the time it just quits. The error code is 0xc0000005 and the address is 0x00000000410092ed. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Phil:

Sri for the problem.

We have seen this error before. It happens when Visual Foxpro itself crashes -- some bad juju between VFP & Windows.

If running Vista or Win 7, do this:
http://hosenose.com/Foru...indows-7-and-Vista.aspx If you are running Vista/7 and UAC was on, reinstall the CD on top of what's there.

Delete the contents of the LOGIC8\TMP folder.

At what point does it crash?

Can you or have you installed the 8.0.104 update yet?

Dennis, thanks for the reply. I am running Windows XP so does the fix apply to me as well? This problem occurs at random with the program just idling. No logging, searching, reporting or anything else. I can simply start logic, sit back and wait for it to happen. I have installed the latest version and updated tables. Please help!

Yes, everything applies except the part about Win 7/Vista.

So definitely delete the /tmp/ contents.

Other ideas are a bad USB=>RS232 adapter. Prolific-based adapters cause all sort of strangeness, although I have never seen that error caused by it.

I guess it could be a virus checker. Turn it off if you have one and see what happens. We recommend Windows security essentials (free from Microsoft). It does its job without creating any grief.

Try clean-booting your machine using MSCONFIG. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796

Try turning off the callbook interfaces, web clusters, telnet, etc. and see if the problem goes away.

Unfortunately it is just detective work.

Dennis, thanks a million, I am back up and running for about 30 minutes now and that is a long time compared to what was going on. I did remove AVG anti virus software and cleaned up the temp files. The combination of those two items seems to have done the trick.

I guess I spoke to soon. The problem has resurfaced once again. I just turned off the logbook, web clusters and telnet. I will let you know how it goes.

Here is something else to try I just thought of. It is a newer version of the Foxpro runtime libraries. Not thoroughly tested, but have not had any reports of problems with it. Unzip the contentsinto \logic8, replacing the existing files.

So far so good. I installed the new VFP files and since then have restarted the spot log, telnet and KAM+ and everything is working okay after several hours. Thanks again for the help..

Once again I spoke to soon. I restarted L8 and the same thing happened on startup. Back to square one I guess.

Ok, I was afraid of that.

Do I understad that there is not an non-FTDI USB=>RS232 adapter involved?

You have turned off telnet, rig interface, etc etc?

Have you tried MSCONFIG/clean booting?

We used to have a LOT of problems with video drivers, back in the Win 3.1 days. As I recall they caused c00005 errors. You could try updating the video driver, BIOS, etc. I thought of this because I just got a new notebook computer. It weighs about 15 lbs, but that's what it says on the box hihi. More like a ledger than a notebook.

Anyway Windows Update installed 100+ "important" updates, and there is a utility that auto updated BIOS etc. This is an ASUS computer, 64-bit Win 7.

Well, out of complete frustration I did a backup, uninstalled everything, re-installed everything and it all seems to be coexisting nicely once again. The computer is a Toshiba Satellite that replaced my old ham shack computer. So far, so good.
