I was getting an occasional Blue Screen of Death on my main computer. I contacted HP for help. I learned that the BIOS can be updated from the control panel.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

See the first method listed: Update the BIOS automatically using Device Manager

I think this will work even with non-HP computers. If you try it, please let us know.

I normally use the HP Support Assistant method, but of course that is for HP stuff only. It didn't find any updates today. The Device manager did.

Don't know if it fixed the problem yet.

Tnx & 73,

Dennis,
I've never seen that actually work. On typical build-it-yourself motherboards like ASUS or MSI, you can flash from the BIOS screen. On Dell machines, the new BIOS EXE you run places the image in the UEFI partition and on reboot, flashes the image. I'd imagine that HP does something similar (reading the document you mentioned).

Best of luck,

Don

Thanks for the additional info. So far so good -- it was up all last night and didn't crash. I will feel it is fixed after a week.
